About me
Hi, nice to see you here - I'm glad that you're interested in my musical journey! I was born in 1988 in the beautiful city of Ulm, Germany. One of my earliest memories is about me being in the car with my dad, listening to Tower of Power and other great soul, jazz and classical artists. My mom added 70s and 80s pop rock to my musical taste.
Despite all these musical influences, it took until I was 13 for me to finally give in and pick up the saxophone.
Unfortunately, my first teacher and I just didn’t click.
After one year of nonexistent progress it was either switch teachers or stop altogether. By a lucky coincidence I ended up with another teacher. Otherwise, I probably wouldn’t be writing these lines today … I'd probably even have to have a real job.
My new teacher, Martin Traub, made playing the saxophone genuinely fun. These different experiences motivate me to this day to pass on my knowledge to the best of my ability.
Once the spark was lit, there was no stopping it and my musical journey took off. I joined the town band of Ulm, and over time, more and more ensembles of various sizes and styles followed, allowing me to discover and appreciate how versatile the saxophone can be. With the Young Wind Philharmonic of Ulm, I was fortunate to travel to countries such as China and Australia as a teenager.
Taking the advanced music class at an all-girls Catholic school was a very interesting experience, too.
Faced with intimidating entrance exams in piano and voice – and a chorus of well-intentioned advice urging me toward a “sensible” career – I initially decided against studying saxophone. But even while exploring instrument making and teacher training, the number of my students and performances kept growing, until I finally gave in to fate and chose music as my profession after all.
When I’m not teaching or spending time with my wife and daugthers, you’ll usually find me on stage. Over the years, I’ve played with countless bands and orchestras – the Baden-Württemberg State Wind Orchestra, the State Police Orchestra, Theatre Ulm and plenty more.
I’m already looking forward to whatever comes next!
